MFAHouston Homework

                                           Carlos Cruz-Diez
'Maquette for untitled(Crosswalks)' 2009 (Paint on Masonite)
                                            Andy Warhol
'Self-Portrait' 1986 (Acrylic screenprint on canvas)

In these pieces of artwork the surfaces on both were flat and the texture was very surfaced, both were on canvas but each made with a different method. The real eye catcher to me was the 'Maquette for untitled(crosswalks)' by Carlos Cruz-Diez because of the simple fact that I had recognized that pattern somewhere; until reading the description and story behind it, I finnally understood and realized that the same crossways outside of the museum itslef and the rest of the surrounding mueseum aarea  had these color/line patterns for crosswalks. In warhol's 'self-portrait' I saw emotion and much intrigue and that's one and many reasons I like warhol's artwork beacuse of the simple fact of how simple his work is and with the many objects that he uses and themes that he takes; he easily converts them into something dramatic by just using or adding a color scheme or change and showing repetition as well too. And plus both pieces were representational.

  1. I like the works of art that you chose to write about. There are a couple of things that you could have expanded on in you post to add a little more focus and meat. Like how does the print of the crosswalk design compare to the actual installation on the sidewalk. And how does seeing a work of art on the street change its meaning?
